How to Take Care of Your Resinous Floors

Seamless flooring systems offer a nonporous surface, simplifying the cleaning process compared to other flooring options. These characteristics make seamless epoxy floors the most straightforward to maintain among available alternatives. There's no need for stripping or waxing; regular inspections and following sanitation SOPs are generally sufficient.

To maintain BioSecure Flooring's epoxy flooring systems effectively, it's essential to follow specific guidelines from the manufacturer that can include:

Maintenance:

  1. Dirt and Grime
  2. Cleaning Agents
  3. Cleaning Procedures
  4. Waxing
  5. Inspections
  6. Coating repair

1. Dirt and Grime:

Debris left on the surface can act as abrasives over time, marring the finished product under constant heavy traffic. Regular maintenance ensures that BioSecure Flooring seamless flooring systems remain free of long-term dirt and grime contamination.

2. Cleaning Agents:

Avoid using soap, as it can create a film that's challenging to remove and becomes slippery when wet. Floor stripping agents, citrus-based cleaners, and corrosive chemical degreasers should also be avoided, as they can damage the epoxy coating. Instead, opt for a neutral-based cleaning agent diluted with water for regular maintenance.

3. Cleaning Procedures:

  • Sweep the entire floor with a dry mop or soft-bristled broom to remove loose debris and dirt.
  • When using a commercial floor scrubber, use a blue scrubbing pad and dilute the cleaning product according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • For heavily soiled areas, consider a double-pass process, ensuring thorough cleaning.
  • Rinse the floor with clean water, and use a wet vacuum or squeegee to remove excess water. A second rinsing may be necessary to remove any residue.
  • Allow the floor to dry completely before resuming use, and dispose of contaminated water according to local regulations.

4. Waxing:

While waxing isn't necessary for epoxy floors, owners of high-traffic interior systems with a high-gloss finish may choose to use sacrificial waxes to maintain shine. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for application.

5. Inspections:

Regular inspections help identify areas of excessive wear or physical damage, allowing for timely maintenance. Monthly and semi-annual inspections should be conducted to ensure the long-term durability of the flooring system.

6. Coating Repair:

Minor repairs can be made by the owner's maintenance team, but major repairs are best left to professionals. The repair process involves removing loose and damaged coating materials, sanding or grinding the substrate, applying the coating system to original specifications, and allowing it to cure before reopening the area to traffic.

In addition to these maintenance procedures, it's crucial to promptly clean up spills of concentrated nutrients, petroleum distillates, hydrocarbon-based solvents, oil, gas, alcohols, and battery acids to prevent damage to the resinous flooring system. Avoid dropping hot oils, hot coals, charcoals, and alkalis on the coating to prevent punctures.
